Terms of Service

Effective 4 August 2026

1. Who we are

ELF ("we", "us") is operated by ELF Gate Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (Company No. 16755816), G12 Ferneberga House, Alexandra Road, Farnborough, England, GU14 6DQ. Contact: info@elf-app.com. These terms govern your use of www.elf-app.com (the "Service").

2. Your account

You need an account for most features. Keep your password safe — you are responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 16 to create an account; younger learners may use ELF only with a parent or guardian managing the account. You may close your account at any time by contacting us.

3. Free content and ELF Plus subscription

A1-level lessons are free. ELF Plus unlocks all levels, specialist courses and features for £9.99 per month.

  • Free trial: new subscribers get their first 7 days free (e.g. subscribe 4 August, first charge 11 August). A payment card is collected when you subscribe.
  • Trial reminder: we (via Stripe) email you before your free trial ends.
  • Cancelling: cancel any time from the Billing page. If you cancel during the free trial you pay nothing. After that, cancellation stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • Cooling-off: under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have a 14-day right to cancel a subscription. Your first 7 days are free, so cancelling within the trial means you are never charged; if you cancel between day 8 and day 14 we refund the charge, less a pro-rata amount for the days of paid service you have used.
  • Price changes: we will give at least 30 days' notice by email before any price change takes effect, and you can cancel before it applies.

4. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Prices include VAT where applicable. Receipts are emailed to you by Stripe.

5. The AI coach

"Elfie" is an AI conversation partner for language practice. Its responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate — it is a practice tool, not a source of advice. Please don't share sensitive personal information in coach conversations.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse the Service: no unlawful use, no attempts to break or overload it, no sharing your account, no scraping or copying our lesson content for redistribution, and no abusive behaviour towards our team or other learners. Lesson content, including audio, is licensed to you for personal learning only. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms, refunding any unused paid period on a pro-rata basis unless the breach is serious.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud). Otherwise, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the amounts you paid us in that period. We are not liable for events outside our reasonable control, including outages of third-party services we rely on. The Service is provided "as is"; we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or specific learning outcomes.

8. Changes

We may update these terms as the Service evolves. For material changes we will notify you by email or in-app at least 14 days in advance. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.

10. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction (if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also use your local courts). If you are unhappy, please contact us first — we'll do our best to sort it out.
